Agent Memory
Memory lets a conversational agent reuse selected facts and preferences beyond the immediate message window. It is separate from conversation history and context compaction.
Memory scopes
| Scope | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Agent memory | Facts or operating preferences associated with one agent |
| User memory | User-specific facts that may be recalled where the user and agent context allow it |
| Session context | Short-lived working information for the current conversation; managed automatically rather than manually written as memory |
Memory is always evaluated with the active user, space, and agent identity.
Enable memory
- Open Console → Agents and edit a conversational agent.
- Open the memory settings.
- Enable the required memory behavior.
- Save the agent and start a new test session if the interface requests it.
Use memory for durable preferences or facts. Do not use it as a database for frequently changing business records; use a Dataset or Datasource instead.
How recall works
Before generating an answer, the agent can retrieve relevant authorized memories. Semantic similarity helps find a memory even when the new request uses different wording. Retrieved memory is supporting context, not guaranteed truth.
If a stored fact is outdated, correct it explicitly and use the memory management controls to edit or delete it where available.
Manage memory in Chat
The Chat session controls can display and clear memory associated with the current agent. Deleting memory requires confirmation and cannot be undone from the Chat interface.
Clearing a conversation does not necessarily delete durable memory. Clearing memory does not delete the visible conversation history.
Privacy guidance
- Store only information needed for the intended experience.
- Avoid passwords, access tokens, private keys, or regulated data unless your organization's policy explicitly allows it.
- Remove obsolete personal facts.
- Review space membership before sharing a memory-enabled agent.
Memory, knowledge, and data
